A co-applicant is the second signer of the loan. The co-applicant hold sa much responsibility to pay the loan as the applicant co-applicant serves as a guarantor if the primary applicant defaults and the n he would be liable to repay the loan amt to institution. Any blood relation can be a co-applicant but not the sister of any person. A wife could also be a co-applicant.

A Co-Applicant(s) is/are the Co-Owners of the property in respect of whom the financial assistance has been sought. However all co-applicants need not be co-owners. Usually co-applicants are: husband/wife, father/son, mother/daughter etc.

Usually a spouse can be a co-applicant. Other immediate family members are also acceptable to some companies, depending on merits. If both partners are working, it is better to have your spouse as a co-applicant since this will entitle you to a much larger loan.
